Early literacy is important because it sets the foundation for future reading success. There are six early literacy skills that provide the basis for reading. These are print awareness, letter knowledge, phonological awareness, print motivation, narrative skills, and vocabulary skills (Baker 2017). The Camp Pendleton Library will be hosting representatives from San Diego’s Let’s Read Together Program to come in and talk about early literacy and what parents can do to enhance their child’s early literacy development. These seminars will be given on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30pm. Each month the representatives will give new ideas and strategies to help parents teach their child the skills they will need to be a successful reader. Come join us and learn how to instill a lifelong love of reading in your child!
